OBJECTIVES:

  1. Obtain knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrives and takes over.
  2. Obtain knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic care for breathing and cardiac emergencies (provide CPR).

LEARNING OUTCOME:

1)      Students will be able to successfully demonstrate the ability to perform CPR for adult, child, and infant.

2)      Students will be able to successfully demonstrate the skills necessary to control bleeding and to effectively splint various bone, muscle, and joint injuries.

 

EVALUATION

7-Written Examinations (75 points total – must get 80% to pass)

25- Practical Tests                    (5 points each - must show competency in performance)

First Aid Kit                             30 points

Emergency procedure essay      10 points

Attendance                               5 points per class (160pts total)

 

Total 400 points

 

Grading Scale

A         400-361                                   D         280-241

B          360-321                                   E          240-201

C         320-281                                   F          200- and below

 

Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated at Cerritos College. For further information regarding academic dishonesty and possible actions, please refer to the current school catalog.

 

 

First Aid and CPR cards will be sent to the student by mail if the student has passed all written and practical tests. There is a $5.00 fee for the First Aid and CPR cards required by the American Red Cross
