Taiwan (map), Formosa, is a country located in East Asia.  It¡¦s on the southeastern side of China, and on the southern side of Japan and Korea.  The absolute location of Taiwan is approximately between 22˚N~25˚ N and 120E˚~122E˚.

The Tropic of Cancer passes the southern part of Taiwan.  The North of the Tropic of Cancer has humid temperate climate; the South of the Tropic of Cancer has humid tropical climate.

Taiwan sits between the Eurasian Plate and the Philippine Plate, so earthquakes frequently happen in Taiwan (see figure A2-1, A2-2, A3-1 and A3-2 ¡õ).

Taiwan is also part of the Jakota Triangle (Japan, Korea, and Taiwan) (See figureA1 ¡ô), which is a region of great cities, huge consumption of raw materials from all over the world, voluminous exports, and global financial linkages (de Blij 464).
