Text: Lutgens, Frederick, and Tarbuck Edward. The Atmosphere. NJ: Prentice Hall, 2007

You must have access to the textbook in order to succeed in this course.

BEFORE WE BEGIN...

Keep in mind, this is an online course. Although we will not meet weekly in a classroom, there will still be the equivalent of 3 hours of "class time" to be completed each week through readings and assignments. This requires MOTIVATION and SELF DISCIPLINE. To succeed, students must keep up with the readings and assignments. Each week there will be an assignment due. Late work will not be accepted.

Grading

Exams: There will be 3 exams during the semester, each worth 100 points. Exams will include multiple choice and true/false questions as well as practical questions and short answers similar to those in your Investigations Manual. You will have 1 week to take each of the exams. You can take the exam during my office hours or at the Testing Center, Since you have an entire week to take the exam, there are no make-ups.

Assignments: There will be weekly assignments based on your textbook. The assignments are worth 10 points each. They are due each Monday by 5pm. LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. There will be 13 total assignments. All answers, unless otherwise stated, must be in complete sentences and must be in YOUR OWN WORDS. You will lose points for simply copying answers from your textbook.

Short Answers: Throughout the semester you will have short answer assignments. All the information you need is in your textbook at Investigation Manual but you are free to use outside sources as well. You must include the references even if it is just your textbook. These will be paragraph answers. You will complete 2 at a time each are worth 20 points total.

Weather Forecasting – You will have a 30 point Weather Forecasting assignment that will require you to make weather observations over two weeks. Details on this assignment will be posted.

*All written assessments (assignments and short answer questions on exams) will be graded not only based on content but on the departments Writing Standards as well.

The MINIMUM number of points possible for the semester are:

3 exams @ 100 points = 300 points

11 Investigation Manual Activities @ 10 points each = 110 points

3 Short Answer Assignments @ 20 points each = 60 points

Weather Forecasting Assignment = 30 points

Total = 500 points

Grades are assigned as follows:

90-100% = A 80-89% = B 70-79% = C 60-69% = D 59% and below = F

Attendance: Even though this is an online course, attendance is still required. Your weekly participation through the Investigation Manual and online activities will count as your attendance. If you miss more than 2 of these activities and do not contact me, I reserve the right to drop you from the class.

Assignments All assignments must be in by the due date and time. Late work will not be accepted.

Cheating: Will not be tolerated. If you are caught cheating, this includes plagiarism, you will receive a '0' for that assignment and you will be subject to the appropriate disciplinary action.
